Mr. Pusateri founded IBEW 1269 with 30 other Yellow Pages reps in 1969. A Native of Chicago, Ill. Peter is the longest tenured Business Manager in the IBEW.
Peter A. Pusateri has been a driving force of IBEW Local 1269 since he founded the union local in 1964. Born, raised, and educated in Chicago, IL Mr. Pusateri began his career with Pacific Telephone and Telegraph in 1960 as a commercial advertising consultant in San Francisco. When Mr. Pusateri organized and founded IBEW Local 1269 in December 1964 it was the first unionized directory operation. In 1965 he formed the National Bell Council and was elected its first Chairman, representing over 100,000 IBEW members of AT&T nationwide. While Chairman he was appointed to the first IBEW/AT&T National Bargaining Committee, serving from 1974 to 1983.
Throughout the early 1970’s and early 1980’s, Mr. Pusateri was active in San Francisco politics and was a frequent guest lecturer at various state colleges and universities on the subject of collective bargaining and labor-management relations. In 1986 Mr. Pusateri bargained the first post-divestiture, nationwide contract for the IBEW with the new AT&T. In 1989 Mr. Pusateri was appointed by the international president to bargain the first combined IBEW/CWA national contract with AT&T. In 2002 Mr. Pusateri was elected chairman of the IBEW/System Council T-3 and Chief Negotiator for IBEW nationwide bargaining with AT&T. In 2007 Mr. Pusateri was appointed to serve on the congressional IBEW Telecommunications Legislative Reform Committee. He is also an honorary member of the Japanese equivalent of the AFL-CIO. Mr. Pusateri is the most tenured Business Manager in the IBEW.
